Tamborine Mountain Young Adult NDIS Program (March 2026): Building Confidence, Social Skills & Independence

A Life-Changing NDIS Experience for Young Adults When people think about an NDIS travel program, the first question is usually “Where do they go?” But after running our Tamborine Mountain Young Adult Program (19–22 March 2026), the better question is:“What do participants actually gain from it?” Yes, Tamborine Mountain gave us beautiful scenery, fresh air, and a relaxed pace. But what really stood out wasn’t the location — it was the way participants grew over just four days. It Started With Something Simple: Connection On the first day, during a relaxed welcome picnic, something important began to happen. People started talking. Not in a forced or structured way, but naturally — over food, shared space, and a new environment. For many participants, this is often the hardest step. By the end of the program, that shift was clear. The best thing in the program: “Making connections with all different types of people.” – Isabel“Meeting new people.” – Oliver It might sound simple, but learning how to connect with others — to start a conversation, to feel included — is a huge milestone. Confidence Doesn’t Come From Big Moments — It Builds Quietly During the walk at the Tamborine Rainforest Skywalk, there wasn’t a single dramatic “breakthrough moment.”   Instead, confidence built slowly.   Taking the first step onto the walkway.Continuing a little further.Realising, “I can do this.”   That’s how real confidence develops — through small, supported wins.   The same thing happened at the Tamborine Mountain Glow Worm Caves. A new environment, slightly unfamiliar, but experienced together. What could feel overwhelming alone became manageable — even enjoyable — in a group. Everyday Moments Are Where Real Learning Happens Some of the most valuable parts of the program didn’t look like “learning” at all. Walking to Curtis Falls.Spending time around the local area.Figuring out what’s happening next in the day. These are the moments where participants practise: managing time without pressure understanding routines making small decisions independently They’re subtle, but they matter. Because this is exactly what independence looks like in real life. Social Confidence Grows When There’s No Pressure At places like Thunderbird Park and Cedar Creek Falls, the structure softened. There was space to just sit, talk, watch, or take part at your own pace. And that’s often when social confidence grows the most. Not when someone is told to interact — but when they feel comfortable enough to choose to. Support That Makes a Difference A big part of what made this program work was something participants themselves noticed: “Tailored support.” – Claudia Support wasn’t about pushing people to do more. It was about understanding when to step in and when to step back. That balance allowed participants to: feel safe, try new things, and build independence without feeling overwhelmed. By the end of the four days, the overall feeling was simple: “It was an amazing experience.” – Binda-Miah And that says a lot. Because when participants feel comfortable, supported, and genuinely enjoy the experience, that’s when growth happens naturally. Why This Program Matters for NDIS Participants Programs like this support much more than just “activities.” They help young adults: Become more confident in social situations, Feel capable in new environments, Take steps toward independence in a way that feels achievable.   That’s exactly what many families are looking for when exploring an NDIS young adult program — not just something to do, but something that creates real progress. Final Thoughts The Tamborine Mountain Young Adult Program wasn’t defined by its schedule or locations. It was defined by small moments: a conversation that started more easily than expected, a challenge that didn’t feel as hard the second time, a sense of belonging that grew over a few days. And those are the things that stay with participants long after the program ends. Participants Feedback The careers where very supportive and encouraging and the itinerary was fun and fulfilling Isabel, participant Everything and everyone was amazing Binda-miah, participant It was very fun, I made some friends and had a great time Oliver, participant Amazing organisation very detailed information well thought through. “You Don’t Have to Worry” – NDIS Travel & Outdoor Adventure Program Review by Rachel

Looking for a fun, confidence-building young adult program? Here’s what one of our participants, Rachel, had to say after joining our recent adventure program.“I showed up ready to dominate… and left with way more than I expected.” – Rachel A Real Participant Story from the Riverland, South Australia Rachel joined our Riverland SA young adult program, designed to support social connection, independence, and confidence through shared experiences and adventure-based activities. From the very beginning, Rachel came in with energy and excitement—ready to get involved and make the most of every moment. “I wasn’t nervous, I was just excited for all the activities.” Water Activities That Got the Adrenaline Going One of the standout highlights for Rachel was the water tubing experience—a core part of our adventure activities in the Riverland.“Flying across the water, holding on and laughing the whole time—that was definitely my peak moment.” Alongside tubing, participants also had opportunities to enjoy kayaking, swimming, and other water-based activities, making this program ideal for confident swimmers who enjoy high-energy experiences. Building Confidence and Social Connection Beyond the activities, Rachel shared that one of her biggest personal wins was connecting with new people. “I can now talk to more people I’ve never met before.” “When I was able to make someone smile—that felt like a win.” These moments reflect the heart of the program—supporting communication skills, social confidence, and genuine connection in a safe and inclusive environment. A Boost in Energy, Independence and Confidence “The activities and food kept me wide awake.” From engaging activities to shared meals, Rachel described the overall experience as energising and engaging. More importantly, she left with something lasting—greater confidence and independence, especially when it comes to social interaction. Supportive Facilitators Make a Difference Rachel highlighted the impact of the team, especially one facilitator who stood out during the program. “Murray was very inspirational.” Having supportive facilitators helps create an environment where participants feel encouraged, comfortable, and empowered to step outside their comfort zones.
